Atari Unveils Commemorative Logo Marking 50 Years Since Pioneering Video Games

Video games are at least half a century old. This sobering revelation comes straight from Atari, which has just unleashed a 50th-anniversary logo celebrating its longevity in the video game business and its formative role in propelling it.
The gaming giant reprises the iconic ‘Fuji’ motif—its primary brand symbol—incorporating it into the golden ‘50’. This mid-centennial tribute is officially called the ‘GoldSchool Sunnyvale’ logo, named after Atari’s famed internal design studio in Sunnyvale, California. “Gold” alludes to “the ‘golden anniversary’ of the games industry Atari helped launch,” Atari details in a press release.

“On behalf of the entire Atari team, I’m proud to unveil this commemorative logo and launch the celebration of our 50th anniversary,” announces CEO Wade Rosen. “Atari has an exciting year ahead, filled with new and commemorative products that will delight our fans; including the launch of new premium game titles, new business initiatives, and several really exciting lifestyle product collaborations.”
Atari will continue paying homage to the milestone in the leadup to June 27, 2022, which will officially mark 50 years since its incorporation by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney, and into “the end of the 2022 golden anniversary year.” Having incepted the world into arcade gems like Ping, Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command and home console systems like the Atari 2600 (which supported swappable game cartridges), it surely deserves a massive birthday bash. Also worth commending is how it’s continued to endure into the cusp of the metaverse age.
As part of the celebrations, Atari will released remastered versions of its classic games in 2022, supplementing them with trivia about their origins and impact.
