Nike Halts Release Of Travis Scott Air Maxes Following Astroworld Tragedy

Following the tragedy at Travis Scott’s Astroworld festival that left 10 people dead and over 300 injured, Nike has announced it will be pausing the release of the rapper’s special Air Max 1 shoes.
“Out of respect for everyone impacted by the tragic events at the Astroworld Festival, we are postponing the launch of the Air Max 1 x Cactus Jack,” Nike said on its SNKRS app.
According to Input, two sneakers were scheduled to launch next month, with three more Air Maxes expected sometime next year. In total, the sportswear giant has 10 other collaborations with Scott in the works, though it’s currently unclear if those designs will see the light or be scrapped.
Other companies that endorsed Scott, such as popular online game Fortnite, have removed the rapper’s images from their platforms. It’s not much of a surprise, considering how the event tragically ended.
While it’s unclear if Nike will eventually release Scott’s collaborative sneakers, the company would probably wait for the whole situation to blow over and fade from public consciousness before considering resurrecting the partnership. After all, with the rapper’s resale prices going down, it’s a good indicator not many fans will be lining up for a launch any time soon.
