Straight out of a scene from virtual reality, Burberry plays with the mind by positioning a mirrored, metallic sculpture amid untouched greenery in Jeju Island, South Korea.
Burberry’s The Imagined Landscapes Jeju, with a façade shaped like topographic contours, rests at the foot of Halla Mountain, its reflective sheen mirroring the scenic surroundings and adapting the sculpture’s appearance based on the evolving natural lighting.
The luxury house describes the futuristic installation to be blurring “the lines between nature and technology, the indoors and outdoors, the real and the imagined.”
Within the space, guests will not only be able to browse outdoor-friendly Burberry pieces like puffer jackets and, of course, the iconic trench coat, but they’ll also be shown a trio of films (by artists Maotik, Cao Yuxi, and Lia Jiayu) experimenting with nature, the virtual, and physical distortion.
The dreamlike popup, which will run through December 12, coincides with the opening of Burberry’s first Thomas’s Café in South Korea.
In line with this tropical distortion, Burberry has announced a five-year partnership with the Jeju Olle Foundation, backing the nonprofit’s aim to preserve the island while leaving it accessible to the public.
