13,000-Acre Indiana Solar Farm, Worth $1.5 Billion, Will Be Country’s Largest

This week, an Israeli energy company will officially begin work on the United State’s largest-ever solar farm, which will span 13,000 acres across two northern Indiana counties. The project, which is aptly named the ‘Mammoth Solar’, is expected to cost US$1.5 billion to build.
According to AP News, as part of the project, solar panels will be put up in Starke and Pulaski counties to generate electricity for Doral Renewables, which will then sell the power to American Electric Power under a long-term contract.
The first phase of the solar farm is scheduled to be completed by mid-2023, and is said to be able to produce up to 400 megawatts of electricity, which is enough power to supply 75,000 households.
In total, when the entire farm is up and running, it will be able to generate an astonishing 1.65 gigawatts of clean electricity.
“I’ve never in my life seen anything like this project here. This energy that we harvest here in Starke County is going to enrich lives throughout the county,” said the county’s Commissioner, Mark Gourley.
