Pentagon Forms Task Force With Fancy Name That Basically Means UFO Investigation

The Pentagon has introduced a new task force to investigate unidentified flying object (UFO) sightings, though the group’s name is quite the mouthful. Going forward, the Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group (AOIMSG) will replace the US Navy’s Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force.
“AOIMSG will synchronize efforts across the Department and the broader US government to detect, identify, and attribute objects of interest in Special Use Airspace (SUA), and to assess and mitigate any associated threats to safety of flight and national security,” said the Defense Department.
Back in June, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) released a report on 144 sightings of “unidentified aerial phenomenon.” Of these, only in one instance was the agency able to determine the source of a sighting.
According to Engadget, it recommended that in order to better understand UFOs, more resources should be distributed across various agencies in the nation, which seems to have cumulated in the creation of the AOIMSG.
The task force will aim to reduce gaps in surveillance detection, help analyze intelligence and counterintelligence data, and recommend changes to policy in the area, as per the BBC.
The Defense Department said it will take any sightings of aerial phenomenon “very seriously,” and will deploy experts to “investigate each one.”
