Tesla Introduces In-Car Upgrade Subscriptions, Including ‘Premium Connectivity’

Tesla’s latest software update has given its users the ability to make in-car purchases and subscriptions, without needing to reach for the app.
The opt-in features can be located via the new ‘Upgrades’ tab in the Tesla menu for users who have updated the software to version 2021.40.6.
Normally, Tesla vehicle owners would need to use the website or smartphone app in order to purchase upgrades. However, it’s been noted by Electrek that the UI caused some owners to accidentally make purchases that later couldn’t be refunded.
One of the new functions on offer now is ‘Premium Connectivity’, which can be purchased straight from the center console in Tesla vehicles. Other upgrades come in the form of the ‘Acceleration Boost’, or the infamous ‘Full Self-Driving’ package.
While the latter can be purchased through the app, ‘Premium Connectivity’ appears to be only available through the in-car menu.
Although all Tesla vehicles come with a standard internet connectivity, Tesla introduced the premium subscription, priced at US$10 per month, in 2018. The feature, according to the company, “provides the ability to access all connectivity features over cellular, in addition to Wi-Fi, for the most intuitive and engaging ownership experience.”
Some options that come with this subscription include live traffic visualization, video streaming, and an internet browser.
