Gucci Family Lambastes ‘House Of Gucci’ For Portraying History In Negative Light

The highly-anticipated House of Gucci has once again drawn the ire of the Gucci heirs as it heads to cinemas worldwide. Previously, director Ridley Scott was accused of “stealing the identity of a family to make a profit.”
Now, the biopic, starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver, has come under fire from the famed family once again, who feels the film’s depiction of Patrizia Reggiani, wife to then-heir Maurizio Gucci, is unfair.
The living heirs did not appreciate “the indulgent tones towards a woman who, definitively convicted of having been the instigator of the murder of Maurizio Gucci, is painted not only in the film, but also in the statements of cast members, as a victim trying to survive in a male and male chauvinist corporate culture,” as per a letter by published on Italian news outlet ANSA.
In the note signed by the luxury fashion house’s descendants, the heirs said the brand “was an inclusive company,” with examples of women helming executive positions even back in the 1980s.
“The Gucci family reserve the right to take every initiative (necessary) to protect their name and image and those of their loved ones,” the letter read.
Additionally, ANSA reported that members of the family feel they were falsely portrayed as “hooligans” who were “ignorant and insensitive to the world that surrounded them.”
At the moment, Scott has yet to reply to the heirs’ comments, though with this ongoing feud, it wouldn’t be surprising if even more moviegoers flocked to see the film in the coming months.
