To commemorate the 50th anniversary of its Motorsport racing division, BMW is bringing back the original BMW M brand identity
from 1972 and applying it across new flashy cars in 2022.
Beyond the signature colors of Bavarian blue, black, and white, the vibrant M emblem also consists of red and violet. Surrounding the usual BMW roundel, the other hues—plus a second dash of the primary Bavarian blue—form their own semicircles.
Blue symbolizes the BMW brand, red represents racing, and violet denotes the intersection of the two.

The BMW M logo, first emblazoned on racing cars in 1973, will feature on the front and rear, as well as the wheel hubs, of the new high-performance M models in the US; these include the M3, M4, and X3 M editions.

The badge will be added to the models upon request from January 2022, ahead of the anniversary on May 24, 2022.

More splashes of color are to be expected aside from the eye-catching M roundel in 2022, as BMW is also expected to roll out models in 50 “style-defining colors such as Dakar Yellow, Fire Orange, Daytona Violet, Macao Blue, lmola Red or Frozen Marina Bay Blue”—all “iconic and historically significant BMW M paint finishes.”
