7-Eleven Trials Self-Driving Delivery Service So You’ll Always Have Snacks

Self-driving startup Nuro has teamed up with 7-Eleven to offer California’s first commercial autonomous delivery service, so you can get snacks any time, anywhere.
The service will initially make use of Toyota Priuses, which have been converted into autonomous vehicles, though there will be a safety driver on board at all times to ensure nothing goes awry.
Nuro was the first firm to be granted a permit by the California Department of Motor Vehicles to provide self-driving deliveries. Its two rivals, Cruise and Waymo, have since received theirs this September.
“The Priuses are the first step in Nuro’s multi-phase approach to introducing commercial autonomous delivery,” the company said, adding that this partnership could soon introduce its R2 driverless vehicles as well.
This delivery service will be available to customers in Mountain View. Homeowners in Houston, Texas, have already been enjoying Domino’s Pizza deliveries by Nuro’s Priuses and R2 cars.
