The Grinch Opens His Cave As Vacation Rental To Keep You Away From Festivities

Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than you. Tomorrow, you can be the Grinch.

Something about the extreme isolation during the pandemic has made the holiday buzzkill crave the kind act of sharing, it seems. Either that or his heart has grown three sizes, as he’s opened his 5,700-square-foot cave home as a vacation rental. And he couldn’t have gotten the word out without getting in touch with Dr Seuss Enterprises and homestay platform Vacasa.

Like in the stories, the Grinch’s lair is located a little way north from Who-ville, which turns out to be in Boulder, Utah. It’s also admittedly trickier to reach, so if—like the character—you despise the swarm of Christmas music that currently fills the air, you’ll appreciate how far away you’ll be from it.

The cave comprises a main bedroom; a kitchen; a study; a guest bedroom; a music room; two bathrooms; and a spot for Max, the dog he disguised as a reindeer. While the Grinch hates Christmas, he enjoys the finer things in life and has kept the abode spick and span. Plus, guests can feel free to use his coffee maker and read from his library, which, according to POPSUGAR, carries the apt Chicken Soup for the Single’s Soul.

The kitchen is stocked with canned Who-hash, roast beast, and Who-pudding. However, as the home is in a remote location and tucked away from food establishments, guests are encouraged to bring their own food and beverages. Roast beast, we imagine, would be an acquired taste.

It is worth noting that one thing the character almost hates as much as Christmas is the internet, so there’s very limited connectivity here.

The Grinch is welcoming guests between December 13 and 23, and bookings will open on December 3. He’s no penny-pincher either—a night at the lair is priced at just US$19.57, referencing the year that the book How the Grinch Stole Christmas was released.

And if you’re lucky enough to become one of the Grinch’s new selected friends, there’ll be no need to sugarcoat how you feel about your stay. “Enjoy your stay or don’t, I don’t care,” he declares.
