Apple Launches New Coding Program For Children, Teens Across America

Back in October, Apple opened the first US Apple Developer Academy in Detroit, which featured a curriculum covering the basics of coding, interface prototyping, entrepreneurship, design, marketing, and project management.
The program, which emphasized inclusivity, was part of Apple’s Racial Equity and Justice Initiative to create more opportunities for “communities of color across the country.”
Now, the tech giant has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to launch a new program for children and teenagers.
According to TechCrunch, making use of Apple’s Everyone Can Code syllabus, youths enrolled at local clubs will get a chance to learn to navigate the essentials of app design and development.
The new initiative has been launched in Atlantic City, New Jersey; Chicago; Detroit; Nashville, Tennessee; and Newark, New Jersey. Going forward, it will be offered in 10 more regions, including Atlanta, Georgia; Austin, Texas; metro DC; Miami-Dade County, Florida; Wake County, North Carolina; and Silicon Valley, with plans for it to be expanded further nationwide.
“Together with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, we’ve already introduced thousands of students to innovative technology experiences,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s Vice President of the Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives.
“We are thrilled to expand our partnership to bring coding with Swift to even more communities across the country.”
