Adidas Debuts Waterproof Hiking Sneaker Made Of Upcycled Premium Materials

While Adidas has long been pioneering eco-conscious materials in its shoes, such as sneakers made from mushroom leather, the sportswear giant is now creating sustainable footwear for another subset of the outdoor market: hikers.
The brand has just released the Free Hiker Gore-Tex, a sneaker that is made of “premium materials” upcycled from Adidas’ supply chain. It’s not clear if the footwear will become a permanent fixture on its shelves, but is now out for a limited release known as ‘Nothing Left Behind’.

The bright shoe features pastel hues of blue, yellow, pink, and orange arranged in an animated color scheme that’s certain to stand out from the muddy undergrowth you’re trekking on during hikes. It combines a Gore-Tex membrane with Boot cushioning, a Continental outsole, and added an abrasion-resistant rubber toe cap so you can walk for miles in comfort.
According to Input, the upper’s Primeknit fabric allows the sneaker to wrap around your foot just like a glove, all while still being waterproof—meaning it’s a great fit for an outdoor adventure or even winter days in the city if you know you’re going to encounter sludge.
