Apple Renews Trademark For What Could Be Its Next Mac Software Name

For years, Apple enthusiasts have successfully predicted the names of the tech giant’s major Mac software updates by its trademark filings. And now, with the renewal of the trademark for one of those remaining monikers, it’s a fair guess as to what macOS 13 would be called.
Prior to the launch of macOS 12 this year, it was down to two names—‘Monterey’ and ‘Mammoth’—and now that the former has been snapped up, ‘Mammoth’ is the next mammoth bet. Seemingly affirming this is the fact that ‘Mammoth’ has just been granted a trademark extension in the computer operating system category on November 16, as discovered by 9to5Mac.
Also, over the past years, Apple has christened its computer operating systems after natural California landmarks. Mammoth, referring to the Mammoth Lakes by the Sierra Nevada mountains, is the only trademark filing in the California region that hasn’t been used up.
Which begs the question: Will the 2022 Mac update live up to its rumored name?
