From Budweiser to Sotheby’s, countless brands have dipped their toes into the booming non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace. Now, Applebee’s is joining the craze with the sale of the first in its new series of NFTs: an abstract, technicolor image of a burger by Amber Vittoria, an artist based in New York.
For just US$25, the buyer received the digital artwork along with the casual dining restaurant’s gift card preloaded with US$1,300, or a year’s worth of burgers. According to
Restaurant Business, Applebee’s will be releasing a new NFT each Monday in December as part of its
Metaverse Mondays campaign.
“We are all about ‘Eatin’ Good In The Neighborhood’, and our ability to connect the real world with the virtual world through our great tasting Handcrafted Burgers was an innovative idea we wanted to seize,” said the company’s CMO, Joel Yashinsky.
“Our first #MetaverseMonday was a success, and we look forward to continuing to engage our and with real-world food and virtual world NFTs that reflect our delicious food throughout this month!”
