If there’s one brand that often makes headlines for its quizzical looks, it’s streetwear darling Balenciaga. From a US$3,000 hi-vis coat to an otherworldly space-themed collaboration with NASA, there’s nothing stopping the fashion house from creating quirky outfits and accessories.

This time, the label’s all-new ‘Defender’ shoes have the spotlight, and wow, the giant sneakers could let you wade through anything, maybe even a flood! Featuring an ultra-chunky sole, the incredible pair has studs wrapped all the way from the outsole to the midsole. If anything, your footprints may have others thinking a tire passed through.

In fact, the shoes resemble a military tank, just by its sheer size and also how “aggressive” its soles look. The upper of the sneakers are made with mesh lining and rubber, giving a minimalist finish to an otherwise extraordinarily loud pair of kicks.
