DuckDuckGo Teases A First Look At Upcoming Desktop App, A More Private Browser

DuckDuckGo may be known mainly as a private search engine alternative to Google Chrome, but the company is now offering the best of its features in a desktop app due very soon. 

In a blog post, CEO Gabriel Weinberg writes that the upcoming DuckDuckGo desktop browser will be much more private than its rival Chrome, as well as being “significantly faster” based on early tests. 

Having found success in its mobile app, DuckDuckGo’s desktop app will build upon the same principles. Search, web browsing, and email are just some of the things that will enjoy “robust privacy protection,” according to Weinberg, who promises “no complicated settings, no misleading warnings, no ‘levels’ of privacy protection.”

A notable feature is a ‘Fire Button’, which enables users to close all their tabs and eradicate their browsing history in just one tap. This is one of the most popular features among existing Android and iOS users. 

Rather than presenting itself as a specially-made “privacy browser,” it aims to be more of “an everyday browsing app that respects your privacy because there’s never a bad time to stop companies from spying on your search and browsing history.”

The firm did not specify a release date for the desktop app, although Weinberg has teased “even more search improvements in the coming year.” Perhaps this app will be one of them.
