Watch: Tesla Owner Blows Up Car After Hearing How Much A New Battery Costs
What you’re about to see isn’t a behind-the-scenes look at a new Transformers movie. It’s an elaborate, self-instigated stunt by a (former) driver whose loyalties with Tesla have gone up in flames.
A Finnish man who’s said to be one of the earlier adopters of the Tesla Model S, which launched in 2012, was dismayed when told he’d have to fork out €20,000 (US$22,500) to replace his car battery. For context, prices for the Tesla Model S in 2021 start from an eye-watering US$99,490.
Refusing to cough up more money, the man did what anybody else would do if they found a leaking pipe in their house—he burned that house down. As reported by RT, the driver engaged local YouTube channel Pommijätkät, reputed for exploding things, to end the ties between him and the car with a bang. The YouTubers followed through to the tune of 30 kilograms (66 pounds) of dynamite at a remote, snow-covered spot in Finland.
The feat even included an appearance by a dummy labeled in the video as “Stuntman Elon Musk.” The mannequin, bearing a printed face of the Tesla CEO, was transported to the area by helicopter and dropped from the sky. It was later moved into the driver’s seat to be a part of the stunt.
And here’s the former Tesla owner after getting his closure. He looks pretty content for someone who’s made an impulse decision.
