Alpaca Guest Gets The VIP Treatment At Lavish Hotel In Edinburgh

If Annie the Alpaca had opposable thumbs, she would have left an excellent Yelp review for this posh hotel she’d recently stayed at in Edinburgh.

The Edinburgh Evening News reports that, back in October, this esteemed guest took the trip out from her Alpaca Trekking Centre home in Stirling to the luxurious Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel, where she’d graced with her presence to promote its ‘Santa Paws: The PAWfect Stay’ package. During her stay, she was waited on hoove and foot. 

In photographs, Annie is seen taking a walk on the premises, having alpaca-friendly bar nosh, and even paying with her credit card.

According to the hotel’s website, animal friends who choose to take lodgings in its rooms will be served a “Pawsecco” upon arrival, as well as a cushy bed, a bespoke holiday feast, and “stocking filler treats from Santa Paws.”

It names dogs, cats, and parrots as some of the other types of guests it serves, though it does not discriminate. In a statement published by the Edinburgh Evening News, the hotel notes that all pets are welcome, as long as they can fit into the elevator.

For every pet stay, the Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel says it will dedicate £5 (US$6.70) to the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, which has been rescuing abandoned pets and finding them new homes since 1883.

Annie might be a rescued animal herself, but she is no stranger to the VIP treatment. Ever since she was 10 minutes old, when her owner Dannie Burns took her in, she’d been raised by hand inside the house—away from the 74 other alpacas that live on her farm. “She just thinks she’s a dog,” described Burns.

At one year old, Annie has grown too large to sleep on a bed, so she now spends her nights on the porch. She still gets brought to special events like birthday parties and weddings, and “gets along with everybody,” said her owner.
