You Can Hop On A Residential Cruise Ship For ‘More Affordable’ Life At Sea

If two years of the pandemic have made you weary of the daily humdrum, there’s now a chance to pack up your things and move to a residential cruise ship for a new life at sea.

Storylines, a new player in the arena, will be launching a “luxury residential community at sea” in 2024, which will see “more affordable” residences added to a cruise that you can live on year-round.

A home on board is expected to cost anywhere between a modest US$400,000 to a whopping US$8 million, as per CNN.

According to The Brighter Side of News, the homes feature up to two-story, four-bedroom apartments with over 2,000 square feet of space. Buyers can purchase them outright, or sign up for a 12 or 24-year lease.

When you aren’t on the cruise, you can still make an income by renting out your “sea home” to other travelers. 

In addition to the cost of the residences, those who choose to live on the luxury liner will have to cough up US$65,000 to US$200,000 for a “living fee” to enjoy the all-inclusive features of the cruise. This includes housekeeping services, an on-board physician, and even premium satellite television.

So far, founder Alister Punton said the offer is attracting a wide range of interested tenants and buyers. He said: “We have retirees and children and everyone else in between, including younger digital nomad types.” 

The liner, named the Narrative, is currently under construction, and will set sail on its 1,000-day maiden voyage across six continents in 2024.
