Louis Vuitton Launches Luxury Smartwatch Powered By Its Own Exclusive OS
Smartwatches today are looking smarter and spiffier. Louis Vuitton has debuted the Tambour Horizon Light Up, its third-generation connected timepiece—and for the first time, it runs on an operating system commissioned by the Maison itself.
The watch sports a 1.2-inch sapphire glass face with a bezel-free, end-to-end design. And, as indicated in the ‘Light Up’ name, it illuminates when an alert comes in, helped by the 24 LED lights in the Monogram-accented ring which create a “glow-in-the-dark” look.
The new Louis Vuitton watch introduces a spectrum of customizations, including 11 gradients and a selection of built-in face designs.
According to CNET, it’s also powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon Wear 4100 system.
However, what most sets this timepiece apart from its predecessors—and rivaling smartwatches—is the fact that it’s the only one based on a bespoke Louis Vuitton operating system. The Tambour Horizon Light Up, compatible with iOS and Android, swaps Google’s Wear OS for its own version.
Louis Vuitton describes that the new OS offers a “highly intuitive experience using swipes and functional push buttons.” A ‘My Day’ tab lets the user access their daily agenda, check the weather, or activate a tracker for their heart rate and steps. There are also four modes (including ‘Submarine Mode’), along with the ability to “adapt to your mood,” and controls to manage notifications, calls, music, the camera, and other options. Finally, a ‘My Travel’ tab allows users to easily pull up travel plans, hotel reservations, and boarding passes, in addition to reading Louis Vuitton’s famous City Guides.
With the departure from Wear OS, it means that the watch will no longer be compatible with Google Pay, CNET points out. However, there’s now support for Chinese payment system Alipay.
