The First Film Studio In Space Could Take Off By 2024, With Sports Arena To Boot

In October last year, Russian director Klim Shipenko and actor Yulia Peresild wrapped up the first-ever feature-length film in space.

Now, Space Entertainment Enterprise (SEE), a company producing Tom Cruise’s upcoming movie set in space, has even bigger plans for the film industry in orbit.

The firm has announced its plans to build its very own space station module comprising a production studio and sports arena, with the aim of blasting it off to space by 2024.

According to Variety, the SEE-1 module would be used to produce films, TV programmes, music shows, and sporting events. It will be equipped with facilities for artists and producers to develop, record, edit, broadcast, and even livestream content directly back to Earth.

The Guardian noted that the module will dock itself on the Axiom Station, the first commercial wing of the International Space Station (ISS) that was green lighted earlier this month.

SEE intends to create its own content and host events in orbit, while also making it available to rent to third-parties who are interested in using the space.

“SEE-1 is an incredible opportunity for humanity to move into a different realm and start an exciting new chapter in space,” said co-founders Dmitry and Elena Lesnevsky.

“It will provide a unique and accessible home for boundless entertainment possibilities in a venue packed with innovative infrastructure, which will unleash a new world of creativity,” they added.
