Lotus Teases 007-Style Sports EV With Unique Optimized Batteries
British car manufacturer Lotus recently announced a collaboration with Britishvolt, a battery cell firm, to create an electric sports car. The partnership, according to Lotus, aims for the “co-development of an innovative new battery cell package to power the next generation of electric sports cars.”
This announcement also comes with a bit of a teaser sketch for the design of a brand new, never-seen-before Lotus electric sports car. SlashGear points out that this resembles the brand’s iconic Esprit, seen in The Spy Who Loved Me.
The new car is said to feature a “low-carbon” battery cell package, powered by Britishvolt cells and Lotus’ advanced electric propulsion technology. These batteries, built to be used in this all-new electric sports car, will be developed with a focus on fast-charging, energy density, and weight reduction.
A new factory manufacturing the newly-innovated batteries is being planned for a repurposed area of an old power station coal stocking yard in Northumberland, England.
Presumably, after the battery cell package has been tried and tested in this model, it will also be used in future cars, perhaps with further developments as time goes on.
All future cars by Lotus will be “pure electric,” the company says, their designs inspired by the Evija—touted by the firm as the first British electric hypercar.
Matt Windle, Lotus’ Managing Director, states, “Last year we committed Lotus to a pure electric future, and in the first month of this year we announce another significant step on that journey.”
He also reveals that the Type 132, an all-electric SUV, will be arriving “in the coming months” as well as confirming that three more EVs are “on the way.”
