‘Pokémon’ Releases ‘Diamond’ & ‘Pearl’ Audio For Free Use In Personal Projects
If you’re a fan of Pokémon games and wish to pay homage to them, you can now reuse original audio from the franchise’s Diamond and Pearl games without worrying about infringing on Nintendo’s copyright.
The Pokémon Company has launched a Pokémon DP Sound Library for fans to use the games’ tunes for personal projects.
For example, you’ll be able to use the numerous sound effects in a video, or the soundtracks as background music for non-commercial films and events.
Should you prefer to just indulge in the nostalgic sounds of the past, the music library doubles up as a streaming service that allows direct playback.
Eurogamer reports that music and sound effects are split into the ‘Music Box’ and ‘Playlists’ features, with the latter allowing fans to search through soundtracks by theme in order to create their own unique playlists.
According to Engadget, it’s important to note that the audio can’t be used for any commercial projects, such as broadcast purposes, advertisements, or marketing products with an implied association to the franchise.
Furthermore, the rules stipulate that the soundtracks shouldn’t feature in anything with “ideological, religious, or political” claims, and a specific rights notice must be included in projects where the audio is used.
