It’s not uncommon to run an image search looking for something you had in mind, only to return empty-handed. At long last, your quest to find the perfect photo or artwork is only limited by your imagination—a new website lets you generate just about anything you can think of in mere seconds.
Functioning somewhat like a search engine, ArtSpark.io is a site that creates pictures based on any text prompts you enter. The platform is now home to over 10,000 AI-generated images, from “photos” depicting pink hamsters to renderings of sports cars and artwork of an eye in outer space.
The tool even seems to have an eye for fine art, “painting” objects in the perceived styles of Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, Georgia O’Keeffe, and many others, upon request.
To make a query, simply enter a prompt in the site’s search box, and then watch as the AI transforms a colorful pixelated box into something wholly original that fits the brief.
What ArtSpark can’t do is churn out images of people or anything with a human face. According to its creator, the program runs on the open-source OpenAI, which “intentionally left out anything human-related in the training dataset” to prevent bias. For this reason, hate symbols were also excluded from the database.
Getting AI to create photos and drawings is one thing, but downloading the final product for own use is another. As with many machine-learning models, it’s unclear where the images that helped train the technology hail from, and it’s probably safest to take these results as rough, reference sketches for your projects instead.
Anyhow, it’s still a fun program that points at new potential ways to obtain imagery beyond old-fashioned stock photography sites. Try it here.
