World’s Largest Kaleidoscope Can Be Walked Into, Making You Part Of The Illusion

Crazy mirrors looked to be tripping on something at the 2022 LEAP One Eye On The Stars Conference in Saudi Arabia, where the world’s largest kaleidoscope was on show for three days through February 3.

Designed by London entertainment architecture firm STUFISH, the futuristic installation was explorable and lured visitors into joining a visual play on the Saudi environment.

Scenes depicted natural scapes of Saudi Arabia, leading guests from the bottom of the sea to the deep night sky above the Arabian Peninsula within the 40 x 6 x 3-meter (131 x 20 x 10-foot) space.

To bring this endless illusion to life, STUFISH  covered the space with LED wall and floor tiles, and then magnified their effects all around with tall, warp-less mirrors. A triangular entry and exit completed the kaleidoscope.

The result appeared way more expansive than the space allowed, presenting solutions that can be replicated in areas beyond the realms of art. “Our kaleidoscope is meant to represent how a simple and considered design, when supported with a material that can scale as intended, can return an experience that is far larger than what was built and what is anticipated,” said STUFISH partner MAciej Woroniecki.

“We feel this is the epitome of efficiency and sustainability in architecture.”
