Ford Releases Blueprint Files So Owners Can 3D-Print Their Own Accessories
Following the explosive success of the Ford Maverick, the company has released the blueprints for the design of the pickup’s Ford Integrated Tether System (FITS), allowing users to create their own accessories.
There are eight FITS slots in total in the vehicle, with one in the back of the center console and the rest under the seats, in storage bins. These are small notches that allow for any sort of accessory to be fitted there according to the user’s tastes, like a cup holder or a phone mount.
With these blueprints, users will be able to design whatever they like with accuracy before creating the actual product, which is often 3D-printed. Even if they don’t own their own printer, they can take the design to a third-party service to have it come to life.
Jalopnik notes that such accessories already exist, with an online archive of designs and items existing over at Thingiverse, where files can be downloaded and items created. Some drivers have also created their own ventures selling accessories for the beloved pickup.
Ford did promise to release the blueprints for FITS even before the Maverick entered production, The Drive reports, but better late than never, right? Plus, using the vehicle for a while might give users a better idea of what they need.
The files for the center console and under-seat FITS are available on Ford’s website. Similarly, Valve has also just released the CAD files for its Steam Deck to allow for accessory creation and customization endeavors.
