One uncertainty that may prevent people from making the switch to electric vehicles is if they’ll be able to charge their car, lest they risk being stranded somewhere miles out from the nearest charger.
To combat this, many initiatives expanding charging networks have been popping up lately, and one of them is Walgreens’ partnership with EV charging network Volta.
This expansionof the collaboration will see 1,000 DC fast-charging stalls being implemented across 500 Walgreens stores, which will let drivers plug their cars in for a quick charge when making a stop at the drugstore.
“Walgreens is an ideal match for faster forms of Volta charging given the average time a Walgreen’s shopper typically spends in-store,” Volta founder and CEO Scott Mercer explains in a statement.
“The next phase of our work with Walgreens will provide people with a quick, convenient, and meaningful charge that is tailored to their shopping experience while bringing us another step closer to a clean energy future.”
Volta began working with Walgreens to bring charging stations to the latter’s stores in 2019. Engadget reports that there are currently stations at 49 stores, which is less than a tenth of the planned expansion.
Progressive Groceralso notes that the Volta stations feature large digital screens, helping the stations to double as advertising opportunities, too.
