WhatsApp’s latest beta hints that a new social feature is coming to the messaging platform: WhatsApp Communities.
This feature elevates the concept of a group chat, where administrators will be able to have more control, as reported by 9to5Mac. It’ll still be a private space between the group members instead of the public nature of other social networks.
A screenshot of the Communities page was uncovered by WABetaInfo, with two main descriptors provided by the developers. “Bring your groups together” suggests that a Community can be formed of up to 10 individual group chats.
Meanwhile, “reach everyone at once” means that administrators can “send announcements to all members and keep them updated.” This would work for general updates, while specific news can still be sent to the respective groups separately.
The new Communities feature is still being developed, and its early stages means that it’s not available to even beta users just yet.
