This ‘Apocalypse Jacket’ Can Protect From Fire, Lava, And Even Doomsday

UK-based company Vollebak has come up with what it calls the ‘Apocalypse Jacket’, designed to protect its users from any dangers that could occur during a doomsday scenario. 

Boasting protection from black lava to flash fires and even chemical erosion, the outerwear piece was constructed from a material originally invented by Dr Carl Marvel for NASA’s Apollo program in the late 1950s.

According to Interesting Engineering, the material, named polybenzimidazole (PBI), was created by Dr Marvel to be a fiber that comprises “exceptional thermal and chemical stability.” 

In fact, the brand said the jacket “can retain its integrity after it is exposed to high heat, chemicals, and abrasion, and won’t stiffen and crack, unlike other fire-retardant materials.” 

And if that wasn’t impressive enough, the piece is described as “insanely fireproof” and “tough enough to survive in space,” as a nod to the material’s history of being made for astronauts. 

Of course, a jacket that can protect you from the apocalypse won’t come cheap, it’s currently retailing for a whopping £995 (US$1,350). 

For that price tag, you’ll get an outfit that can fit all the most important supplies should you need to hide out during the end of the world, with the jacket containing 23 different pockets, as per The Coolector.

Five pockets line the outerwear’s back, with two more on the neck, and six on the sleeves—giving you nifty places to stash your most precious items while on the run. Each pocket has a concealed zipper hidden in the seams, so from the outside, no one else can tell. 

Willing to shell out for a jacket that claims to be able to save your life in the event of a zombie attack?

Well, as Vollebak puts it: “In the event that there is no zombie apocalypse, this is still one of the strongest and most fireproof jackets ever built.”
