Truth Social—the social media app newly established by former US president Donald Trump—might be a space for right-wing users to exchange their “truths,” but it’s already had some mishaps concerning its integrity with intellectual property.
In October, the platform was called out for reusing the code of an open-source site without the proper accreditation. Now, its logo is being challenged.
It turns out that Truth Social’s branding is remarkably similar to the logo of Trailar, a solar power firm from the UK.
Both feature a white letter ‘T’ positioned against a blue background. The two icons each also have a portion chipped off on the left of the bar.
What’s noteworthy is that, prior to its launch, Truth Social had a different logo that depicted a fully intact ‘T’. Somewhere along the line, its monogram got closer to the style adopted by Trailar, which specializes in fixing solar panels onto larger vehicles, as well as in analytics for the trucking industry.
“Great to see Donald Trump supporting a growing sustainability business! Maybe ask next time?” the British company responded.
Trailar’s demeanor is a touch less cheery behind the scenes, as it told news outlets including the Daily Beast that it is looking into taking legal action against Truth Social.
Matthew Summers, head of marketing at Trailar, confirmed with Newsweek: “Based on recent news brought to our attention by various media outlets, showcasing the similarities between our own Trailar logo and the Truth Social logo, we are now seeking legal advice to understand next steps and options available to protect our brand.”
