Try Harder, Bike Thieves—This One’s Whole Frame Is A Lock

Gone are the days of returning to where you parked your bicycle and realizing that it has been swiped by a thief, with Yerka’s third-generation anti-theft bike promising that it will never happen again. Because the entire thing is its own lock. 

Yerka V3 has its own built-in locking system using the bike’s downtube. When securing it to anything, users just have to open the downtube, pull out the seat post, then thread it through the tube’s ends. A key locks everything in place, and they’re free to leave with peace of mind. 

This entire process just takes around 15 seconds, and is a rather simple movement once the rider gets the hang of it. 

As Robb Report notes, this can’t be sawed through to extract the bike because damaging the downtube effectively renders the bike useless, so it would really be a rather pointless endeavor to try and do so. 

But what about the wheels? The bicycle has that covered too. In the wheels’ design, a unique nut is used, and this requires a special adaptor to remove. This comes with the bike, so the chance of a thief having that same adaptor is slim. 

Apart from keeping the bike safe from theft, the Yerka V3 has another standout feature that keeps the rider safe: its wheels glow in the dark. Both tires feature a thick reflective trip in either turquoise, black, or white, to ensure safety even when commuting at night. 

The company states that a normal bicycle weighs about 17kg (37.5lbs) on average, but the Yerka weighs just 12.9kg (28.4lbs) while being able to withstand about 150kg (330.7lbs) of weight under “normal use.” 

Its frame also includes the ability to install a child seat, grill, or mudguard on the bike at the user’s discretion, as long as they’re compatible. 

Two versions of the bicycle are available on Yerka’s website; the single-gear bike starts at US$699 and the three-gear variation is US$799.
