Consumers are becoming more connected despite staying apart, thanks to the several innovations that keep them online and engaged. The role that inventors of these tools have assumed in the pandemic cements their relevance in people’s eyes, too.
After surveying over 13,500 people in the US, growth consultancy Prophet uncovered the brands that soared in top-of-mind awareness in 2022 and ultimately earned a spot on its annual Brand Relevance Index. 293 companies spanning 27 categories were considered for the ranking this year.
The firm found a link between the 10 leading brands: They all bring people together without users having to leave home, redefining what community means. Years ago, technology was a cold entity—but a lot of it is human-centered now.
Here are the 10 most relevant brands of 2022, according to consumer feedback:
1. Apple
2. Peloton
3. Spotify
4. Bose
5. Android
6. Instant Pot
7. PlayStation
8. Fitbit
9. TED
10. USAA
Prophet says how relevant a brand is has a direct relationship with its growth and value for investors.
In addition, it’s seeing an upswing for companies that enable self-improvement and wellness. TED, the educational keynote series, claims the ninth spot. Meanwhile, meditation app Calm has made its debut on the list has placed at 15th.
Interestingly, the broader ranking shows signs of people returning to the real world, with Sephora and Ulta performing better in relevance as compared to last year, as have Planet Fitness and CrossFit, and Hilton and Ritz Carlton. These suggest that “people are ready to see the world again,” notes Prophet.
“People are always changing, which means relevance is a moving target… These companies were able to read cultural phenomena like DIY, self-help, and pandemic exhaustion, and address these trends with their products and services,” says the agency’s chief growth officer Scott Davis.
