Emirates Opens 24/7 Airport Lounge For Unaccompanied Kids Flying On Their Own

Budding explorers might be able to overcome any reservations they have about flying over at Emirates’ Unaccompanied Minors Lounge, a newly upgraded lounge for children at Dubai International Airport.

As its name suggests, the Unaccompanied Minors Lounge is designed for children who are traveling without a parent or guardian. Caretakers can drop the little ones off at the lounge, where they’ll be attended to by airport personnel who will check them in and be at their side past immigration and security checks, the boarding gate, and to their seats on board.

The kids-only lounge is open 24 hours a day, and invites young solo travelers to put their feet up on its comfortable seats or help themselves to video games, refreshments, and free Wi-Fi. The airline notes that even the bathrooms are tailored for children.

To be entitled to this luxury, flyers aged five through 11 will have to pay adult fare. Patrons on a different cabin class from adult companions will be considered unaccompanied minors and can also await their flights in this exclusive room. And while children between the ages of 12 and 15 years old will have to automatically upgrade to adult tickets, they’ll be welcome to access the lounge, as well.

The VIP treatment doesn’t stop at the lounge. On the plane, children can indulge in an array of more than 130 age-appropriate television channels and over 50 Disney films, watching them with their child-sized headsets on. They’ll also be served kid-friendly meals and given toys (made from recycled materials) and activity packs.
