YouTube Officially Bans Channels In Europe Linked To Russia’s RT, Sputnik
Earlier this week, YouTube-owned Google issued a ban on Russian channels’ ability to monetize on the platform.
Now, it has gone a step further by blocking state-owned media outlets, including RT and Sputnik, from being accessed in Europe, as reported by Reuters.
As per Politico, this moves comes as the European Commission announced it wanted these Kremlin-backed outlets to be removed from the EU and the UK.
“It’ll take time for our systems to fully ramp up. Our teams continue to monitor the situation around the clock to take swift action,” YouTube said in a tweet.
Other technology firms, such as Apple, have instated new sanctions against Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.
