Tesla’s Elon Musk Makes EV Superchargers Free For Refugees Fleeing Ukraine
Earlier this week, Elon Musk deployed SpaceX’s Starlink broadband service to Ukraine, with more terminals en route to the country as it battles against Russian invasion.
Now, the technology billionaire has once again lent a hand to the nation.
As per CNET, Musk is allowing refugees fleeing the country with electric vehicles (EVs) to charge their cars for free at Tesla superchargers.
The United Nations Refugee Agency estimated that 660,000 people have escaped the country thus far.
According to Robb Report, the automaker told owners in an email it would be waiving the fee for chargers in several countries surrounding Ukraine.
Starting now, any EV will be able to charge up in Poland (Trzebownisko), Slovakia (Košice), and Hungary (Miskolc and Debrecen) at no cost.
This service could help the estimated 30,000 EVs on Ukrainian roads, as per the Kyiv Independent’s report in January.
“We hope that this helps give you the peace of mind to get to a safe location,” said the email.
