Samsung Confirms Hackers Breached And Stole Galaxy Source Code

Samsung has announced that its internal data, including source code for Galaxy smartphones, has been breached in a recent cybersecurity attack.

According to Gizmodo, Lapsus$, the group claiming responsibility for the breach, had been behind another hack on Nvidia last week, in which it leaked employee credentials and sensitive proprietary intel online.

This time, with Samsung, the collective uploaded a 190GB torrent file to its channel on Telegram, claiming it contained information on biometric login authentication and code that could be used to bypass the firm’s operating system controls.

At the moment, the technology firm has acknowledged the breach, but did not confirm the identify of the bad actor or the data that was stolen. It did, however, emphasize that personal intel on employees and customers were not compromised. 

“According to our initial analysis, the breach involves some source code related to the operation of Galaxy devices but does not include the personal information of our consumers or employees,” Samsung told Bloomberg.

“Currently, we do not anticipate any impact to our business or customers. We have implemented measures to prevent further such incidents,” the company added.
