For Lacoste’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection, one-of-a-kind pieces have been created. Contrary to the almost snobbish quality often associated with exclusive fashion drops, though, the sportswear label is shifting its focus to humanitarian needs.
The latest release is a private one—there’s no runway nor public announcement by the official Lacoste channels, and you’ll only hear about it from the accounts of executives such as creative director Louise Trotter. The collection is aptly entitled Off Grid, and its rare pieces are displayed in photos at a closed-door exhibition.
According to Dazed, which has published the lookbook, Off Grid features one-off tennis sweaters, varsity jackets, and track tops patchworked from fabric scraps, upcycled yarn, and post-consumer products. The selection also includes a pair of raw-hemmed sneakers designed by London artist Helen Kirkum.
Instead of displaying the pieces via a catwalk, Lacoste enlisted employees, friends, and family to show them off in a series of elevator selfies taken at its headquarters in Paris.
Notably, sustainability isn’t the draw here. In light of the unprovoked crisis in Ukraine, Lacoste has made the last-minute decision to refuse a single cent for the collection. Instead, 100% of earnings made from Off Grid will go into backing the UN Refugee Agency’s Ukraine appeal.
As the one-of-a-kind garments will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis, customers will only be able to purchase them by sending in an enquiry to [email protected].
