Disney Forms Task Force Vowing To Be ‘Force For Good’ For LGBTQ+ Kids & Families

Earlier this week, Disney chief Bob Chapek apologized to employees for remaining silent on Florida’s so-called ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill, which aims to limit topics related to sexual orientation and gender identity in the classroom. 

While the company had initially refrained from commenting on the matter, it decided to speak up after 60 employees staged a walkout in an effort to get the firm to stand up for its LGBTQ+ staff and their families, as per The Gazette. 

“We know the moment requires urgency—and words are not enough. So we are taking some actions right now,” Chapek said, as per recordings heard by Reuters.

Disney has scheduled a “diversity event” for April 13, at which executives will listen to employees’ concerns as part of a “global listening tour” to seek feedback from both staff in the US and internationally. 

In addition, it has launched an LGBTQ+ task force, which will be helmed by Senior Vice President of Communications Paul Roeder and Senior Vice President of Global Marketing for Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Lisa Becket. 

This coalition will work together with experts to develop steps that will allow Disney to be “a force for good” for LGBTQ+ children and families. 

Furthermore, Chapek announced the firm would donate US$5 million to pro-LBGTQ+ organizations, and pause all donations to Florida politicians.
