A Barbie 3DS Game Apparently Sold Off For $1,600

Is life in plastic really that fantastic?

A 2010 Nintendo 3DS game reportedly went to a buyer for US$1,600, and that’s not counting the “shipping to Brazil,” where the collector lives. That game, of all things, is called Barbie: Groom and Glam Pups.  

The cartridge’s worth isn’t derived from the “realistic techniques” of bathing and brushing demonstrated in the game, nor does it come from the six breeds of high-maintenance show puppies that the player is tasked to groom, train, and dress up. The fact that the game’s mentor is Barbie, a celebrity, doesn’t mean anything, either.

Rather, it’s driven from the fact that this game is extremely rare. The title was only released in Canada, Europe, and Australia, and the buyer paid good money for a Canadian cartridge to complete their North America-specific 3DS cartridge set.

The purchase is a little belated, according to the collector, as “a few years ago it was around US$700.”

“Should have bought it back then,” they added.
