This Single White Diamond Could Be Worth An Eye-Watering $30 Million

If you’re thinking of getting an unforgettable gift for your sweetheart, how about ‘The Rock’, the largest white diamond ever to be offered at auction?

The pear-shaped 228.31-carat stone, which is expected to fetch between US$20 million to US$30 million, has only been owned by three previous owners, and was first mined in South Africa. 

Previously, the largest diamond sold at Christie’s clocked in at 163.41 carats, and sold for a tune of over US$33 million at a Geneva sale in 2017. 

However, The Rock may still fall short of the most expensive diamond ever sold at auction, the ‘Pink Star’, which fetched a staggering US$71.2 million, as per Barrons. 

For those who know their diamonds, this stone is certified as a G color, VS1 clarity gem, and is the largest existing D-Z color pear-shaped diamond ever to be graded by the GIA laboratory. 

“Honestly, the stone has no price,” remarked Christie’s Rahul Kadakia.

“It took us 256 years to find one. Where is the other stone? I don’t know. That’s what’s rare about it,” he explained.

The Rock will go on exhibit at Christie’s locations in Dubai, Taipei, and New York before returning to Geneva for public viewing from May 6 to May 11.
