The Rubik’s Cube Is ‘Impossible’ Now With Squares That Change Color

Not just a mere party trick, the Rubik’s Cube has a cult following that spans the entire globe, with participants competing in tournaments to determine who’s the quickest at solving 3 x 3, 4 x 4, and even giant 10 x 10 cubes.

Now, to up the ante even further, MegaHouse, a subsidiary of a company in Japan that produces Rubik’s Cubes, has created what could possibly be the most difficult cube ever made, in fact, it’s even called the ‘Rubik’s Cube Impossible’.

At first glance, the ‘Impossible’ looks just like a regular cube, until you realize that, depending on the angle at which you’re looking at it, the colors on the cube seem to change.

While this design element may seem like a rather benign update, as SoraNews24 notes, the flickering colors could slow down expert speedcubers who typically note the hues on the cube as they turn and twist it extraordinarily quickly. 

According to HYPEBEAST, a typical cube already serves up 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 different combinations to solve, and with the “changing” colors as an added challenge, the possibilities could be endless. 

In the promotional video for the ‘Impossible’, two speedcubers (who could solve a regular cube in less than a minute) either gave up trying to solve the new iteration or took over three hours to complete the challenge.
