Pink Floyd Releases Its First Song In Nearly 30 Years For Ukraine
Pink Floyd is back with the band’s first new release in nearly three decades.
Not only is Hey, Hey, Rise Up! the first original music from the group since 1994, it features a special guest: Andriy Khlyvnyuk of Ukrainian band Boombox.
Using his vocals from an Instagram post of him singing a patriotic song, Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow, in Kyiv’s Sophia Square, the band put together a new track to support Ukraine’s stand against the Russian invasion.
According to Pitchfork, proceeds from the single and its music video, which was directed by Mat Whitecross, will go towards the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund to back war efforts.
Lead singer David Gilmour, who has a Ukrainian daughter-in-law and grandchildren, said that he hoped the release would receive widespread support, and that it would raise morale for citizens in the country.
