Messaging portal Snapchat has partnered with SignAll to feature a new Lens on its app that teaches users American Sign Language (ASL).

Interestingly, the project was led by an all-deaf or hard-of-hearing team at Snap, whose members have adorably nicknamed themselves the ‘Deafengers’.

The team built the interactive feature using hand-tracking technology that made an appearance in last year’s fingerspelling Lens for International Week of the Deaf.

Using the Lens, users can learn how to spell their names in sign language, practice signing the alphabet, and participate in games to test their newfound knowledge.

“For native signers, in a world where linguistic inequity is prevalent, we believe AR can help evolve the way we communicate,” said Snap in a press release.
