Netflix Goes From One Thumb To Two Thumbs Up For Your Favorite Shows
Sometimes, you just connect with the characters in a movie or series so much you put it on endless reruns, tell all your friends about it, and immediately join a forum to gush over its best moments.
Knowing this, Netflix has introduced a new rating to its arbitrary thumbs-up, thumbs-down system for when you’ve found a show you just can’t get enough of: double thumbs up.
Starting today, users on the streaming service’s smartphone, desktop, or television app will be able to give their favorite shows the new stellar rating, which will then be fed to the algorithm to suggest other similar movies or series suited to your taste.
According to a press release, Netflix explains that while the usual thumbs up will still get you similar suggestions, a double thumbs up tells it what you love, and will help the system “get even more specific with your recommendations.”
For example, if you give Bridgerton a double thumbs-up, the platform may recommend more series from the cast members, or from production house Shondaland.
