Samsung Could Introduce Recycled Repair Parts For Low-Cost Sustainability

Korean smartphone maker Samsung could soon introduce recycled parts when repairing devices, as part of a win-win strategy to lighten costs for consumers and increase the brand’s sustainability efforts.

For those in the know, this isn’t the first time the brand has taken an eco-friendly approach to its products, having announced recently that its new Galaxy devices would be partially constructed from recycled fishing nets.

According to Business Korea, the technology giant is considering adding the manufacturer-certified components by June 2022, which could see repair costs slashed by as much as half.

More importantly, Samsung is taking care to ensure the quality and performance of the upcycled parts would match that of brand-new elements, quelling consumers’ fears that they’ll be receiving sub-standard units.

As we inch closer to the company’s overarching goal of building all its smartphones out of reclaimed parts by 2025, incorporating recycled components into its repair service will no doubt go a long way to achieving that lofty milestone.
