Not many people may have heard of IMDb TV, Amazon’s free streaming platform that offers advertisement-supported movies, television series, and over 60 FAST channels.
Now, with its rebranding to a much catchier-sounding Freevee, the company hopes the service will catch on with even more viewers in the US and UK, with plans to expand it into Germany later this year.
According to Amazon Studios, Freevee will feature 70% more Originals in 2022, including Prime Video’s longest-running series, Bosch: Legacy, which premieres May 6.
In addition, viewers can expect hits across a whole range of genres, from Hollywood Houselift, a new home-design series, to Australian crime drama Troppo and comedy series Sprung.
While having to deal with advertisements may seem increasingly obsolete with streaming platforms like Netflix and Hulu, Freevee says its platform has half the commercials on traditional television, and at zero cost.
“Our new name clearly communicates who we are: an easy-to-navigate streaming service, available to users for free, whenever and wherever they choose to watch some of the greatest Original and licensed content available,” explained Ashraf Alkarmi, Director of Freevee.
Hopefully, with this makeover, more viewers will know there’s another option out there for online entertainment without a monthly subscription fee.
