NBA Fans Can Cop Free Player NFTs That Dynamically Adapt To The Court

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced it will be minting its non-fungible token (NFT) collection for the playoffs this week, with the 18,000-asset collection dubbed The Association.

Superfans will be able to purchase up to 75 NFTs of each player featured in the 16 NBA teams participating, which may sound similar to collecting basketball cards of old, but with an added dimension.

Just like the actual players, these NFTs will not be remaining static throughout the competition, with the NBA introducing a “dynamic” element so the virtual assets evolve over the course of the playoffs based on a player’s performance in real-life games.

For this to work, The Association NFTs will be connected to live data feeds via Chainlink Oracle, and will be automatically updated according to the number of dunks, blocks, three-pointers, rebounds, or assists a player scores during a match.

Furthermore, there’ll be additional visual changes to look forward to, including the artwork’s backgrounds, player accessories, and emojis based on the individual and team’s performances.

Here’s the good news: All of the NFTs will be free for fans to mint, apart from the Ethereum gas fee. However, each buyer will only be able to secure one per wallet.
