The chocolate and peanut candy bar brand owned by Mars is, for the lack of a better word, snickering at a claim that it has removed the confectionery’s famous “d**k veins” in a bid to pander to “woke” consumers.
Fact-checking site Snopes tracked the rumor down to a tweet calling out companies for killing “so much culture [due] to woke culture,” which was followed up with a photo of a discomfortingly smoothed-out Snickers bar. One of the first things that springs to mind in relation to this criticism is Mars’ “desexualization” of the green M&M, which reimagines the character with sneakers instead of high-heeled boots.
So when a rumor about Snickers smoothing out its bars’ jutting lines—colloquially termed “d**k veins”—emerged, fans were quick to express their disappointment.
It’s all a myth, however. Snopes attributes the smoothness of the candy bar in the picture to the chocolate potentially melting, or a manufacturing error.
Snickers later revealed its fully-erect stance: That the X-rated-ish lines are not gone. “Contrary to what’s trending… THE VEINS REMAIN!” it tweeted, sharing a photo of a naked Snickers bar with nuts, veins, and all.
