Anheuser-Busch is inviting American drinkers to toast to a good cause as it prepares to brew Ukraine’s most popular beer in the country. All proceeds made from sales of the lager in the US will benefit Ukrainian families and provide them with critical aid, shelter, food, and water amid the escalating conflict with Russia.
Instead of importing the beer, the brewer will manufacture Chernigivske at its factory in Newark, New Jersey.
Chernigivske is described as a “European-style pale golden lager” with light fruity notes and a “moderately bitter finish.” The beer, launched in 1988, is part of the AB InBev family and is said to celebrate Ukraine’s history, culture, and people. It happens to be named after a war-torn Ukrainian city.
As well as raising funds from beer sales, the company says it will donate at least US$5 million to nonprofits focused on humanitarian aid. These include CARE Ukraine Crisis Fund, the recipient of proceeds from the Chernigivske beers, which is offering care to four million Ukrainians.
The initiative has already kicked off in the UK and eight European markets, with plans to expand to Canada and Colombia.
In the US, the Chernigivske-inspired beer will head to participating locations in Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Houston, and Phoenix starting in May. More details are available on the dedicated Chernigivske.com US website.
