Ai Wei Wei’s Glass Sculptures Stolen From Gallery In Daylight Heist
Sculptures made by renowned artist Ai Wei Wei were looted from an exhibition at Lumas Galerie in Hamburg, Germany during a cunning heist that took place in broad daylight.
Unfortunately, the art gallery’s alarm had failed to alert its staff, allowing the burglar to make off with three glass sculptures—in green, yellow, and orange—that reference the Chinese dissident’s famed photography series, Study of Perspective, in which he raises his middle finger to monuments and political sites around the globe.
The artist’s works, which have long made splashes in the industry for its counter-cultural rhetoric, were priced at €9,500 (US$10,000) each.
The Hamburg Police are now appealing for information about the perpetrator or whereabouts of the sculptures.
